This by far the best thing I’ve done, thank you Melbourne Heli for an amazing experience from start to finish. Gray was very thorough & explained it all perfectly for a first timer. This is something I’ll never forget & has most certainly stirred my desire to obtain my helicopter license. A great experience
Recreational
Helicopter RPL Training
Think of an RPL as your basic pilot licence. You can build or buy your own helicopter and fly it without needing another pilot in the cockpit with you. It has a few limitations of course, you may only carry one passenger and you’re unable to travel further than 25 nautical miles from your take-off point. However, navigation and radio endorsements can be added to give you the option to fly further, and into controlled airspaces.
This licence is very useful for example if you need to survey large properties from above, or you’re interested in building your own kit helicopter to take out for a spin from time to time.
Requirements
- Complete 25 hours of flight training, however we recommend you allow for 35 hours.
- Undertake an English language assessment.
- Pass the Recreational Aviation Medical Practitioner’s Certificate (RAMPC).
- Pass a Basic Aeronautical Knowledge exam.
- Pass the RPL flight Test.
Reviews from our student pilots
Alex had done an incredible job of taking me from virtually zero helicopter experience a few weeks ago, not even knowing how to start the machine, to being competent to fly it completely on my own. “How was that?” she asked me after my first solo. “Awesome!” I replied, pretty much summing up how good it felt. “Absolutely awesome”.
Thanks guys you are all fantastic instructors. I found learning to fly with Melbourne Heli to be one of the best experiences and you all made the learning to fly effortless. I look forward to seeing you guys grow with more students, people would be crazy to go anywhere else.
Good luck.
Words can’t express how amazing the whole experience was. The views were breathtaking, the helicopter was awesome and my Instructor Chris conducted every part of the lesson from the explanation and info session to the flight itself as well as hovering at the end in a professional and humorous manner that kept me both entertained and feeling safe the entire time.
When I described to my family what it’s like to do a solo circuit I said ‘It’s like your mom driving you to the mall so you can practice driving around the parking lot before the two of you drive home together.’ Except it’s 1000x more rewarding and the ‘car’ is a little more expensive. Soon I’ll be ‘driving to the mall’ all on my own and it’s so surreal and exciting that I’ll be completely solo soon! I love every minute of my training here.
I’ve always had a love of Aviation. My father worked at the airport for 40 years, so I grew up surrounded by people working in the industry and I’ve always been someone who preferred to turn my head to the sky as opposed to the ground. These things coupled made me decide to book in my first flight with Chris. It was love at first flight and I’ve been here ever since.
