Helicopter CPL Training

The Commercial Helicopter Pilot Licence (CPL-H) is your gateway to a career in rotary wing aviation. It is one of the most diverse and rewarding licences available in aviation, opening the door to a wide range of industries and operational environments that few other careers can match.

Holders of a CPL-H can pursue pathways across tourism and scenic operations, aerial photography and film production, surveying and mapping, agricultural work including mustering and crop-spraying, firefighting, offshore operations, law enforcement, search and rescue, air ambulance, flight instruction, and general charter work. Whether you’re drawn to the adrenaline of firefighting, the precision of aerial survey work, or the satisfaction of an air ambulance role, the CPL-H puts you in a position to pursue the career that suits you.

It is worth noting that most of these pathways require additional ratings, endorsements, and hours beyond the licence itself — but the CPL-H is the essential foundation from which every professional helicopter pilot’s career begins.

What do I need to do to get a CPL?

  • Complete 105 hours of flight training – the final 30 of which must be completed within a 90 day time frame
  • Undertake an English language assessment (AELP)
  • Acquire an Aviation Security Identification Card (ASIC). We can issue these from our base in Essendon Fields
  • Obtain a Class 1 medical
  • Pass seven commercial theory exams
  • Pass the CPL flight test
